Daphne Lee Martin & Raise the Rent Celebrate Release of Full-length Debut ‘Dig & Be Dug’

Daphne Lee Martin & Raise the Rent’s full-length debut, ‘Dig & Be Dug’ landed on November 1st and already it is being heralded as a break through album for the group.  Produced by Jim Carpenter at his Loco Dare Studios, ‘Dig’ is a celebration of the American songbook as seen through the discerning lens of songwriting chanteuse Daphne Lee Martin.  The title references Langston Hughe’s poem ‘My Motto’ which states triumphantly: “My motto, as I live and learn, is: Dig and Be Dug In Return.” The record features a stellar line-up of musicians including Carpenter (The Hoolios), Brad Bensko, “Sandman” Sandy Allen, Bob Burt (Johnny & The East Coast Rockers), Matt Gouette, Danny Motta (Roomful of Blues), Craig Edwards, Gabriel Chandler (Above Below), and John “Wayno” Waynelovich (Barefoot Truth).

A release celebration for ‘Dig & Be Dug’ was held on Saturday, October 29 at Hot Rod’s Cafe in downtown New London, Connecticut.  On a freaky night of snow in October, John Fries & The Heat (who will be playing with Robert Cray on December 3 at the Garde Arts Center) opened the night with a surging blues set.  Providence maniac Chris Hansen played a forceful and yet playful acoustic set that clearly stirred the crowd impressively. Daphne and the rest of Raise the Rent, which on this night included honorary members-for-life Craig Edwards & Matt Gouette, played with fun and aplomb to celebrate their new work despite the concurrent snowmagedon outside (and the wacky hallow’s eve parade of costumes throughout the night!).  The night closed out with a surprise performance featuring Daphne with Skobie One and Erik Lamb on a live take of  the Sexual Healing remix of ‘Nostradamus‘ that the crew recently leaked to the interwebs.
